ON THE FRONTLINE OF HUMAN-ELEPHANT CONFLICT in SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka's population is growing — both its citizens and its elephants. With space at a premium, more and more rural land is being cultivated, fragmenting and diminishing habitat for the country's 7,000 Asian elephants. Conflict between rural communities and foraging elephants is inreasing in turn and each year, an average of 125 people and 370 elephants are killed.
